Everything had been running just fine, went to the store and when I tried to restart my truck, NOTHING!
All the dash lights come on, new batteries, when key moved to start position - no response, not even the clicking of the starter solenoid. Checked the fuses and relays, all OK for starter circuit. May be the neutral position switch or some other dumb thing. Any ideas?
first I would jump from the battery post on the fenderwell mounted solinoid to the small post.If it spins then you have ruled out everything from the battry to the starter
if that works the problem is between the soliniod and the key

01 was the last year they did that Ray. My 02 doesn't have the fender mounted soleniod, even though the manual says it does. Battery cable goes straight to starter solenoid. You can still test for voltage or even short the terminals the same way, it's just easier to do it with test leads that have clips on them.
Like Chris and Ray suggested, I cut to the chase and tried jumping out the solenoid - nada - the starter was shot.
I had to have the truck towed because it was too close to an intersection to leave overnight - $600 later, the new starter performs just like the old one used to
