Anybody got an easy way to remove Vynal Lettering. My old shop used to use a heat gun, but unfortunately i dont have one of those. Ive used Goof Off, Goo Gone, Etc, this decal is really stubborn. I got half of it off, but that took an hour and half...
To remove the dealership's name that they always stick on the tailgate,I just get a long extension cord, and plug in a hair dryer to it.Just keep moving it back&forth over the whole decal for a few minutes, and it should be able to peel off. Then just take some soap&water to remove any glue from the lettering,or decal, and towel dry it off.Polish the area with some wax,and it should look fine.
Goof sort of works. Vinegar sort of works. Rubbing compound sort of works. If they are not to old they are SORT OF easy. If not rub a dub dub until you are out of breath.
A hairdryer usually works to get most of the decal off, given enough patience. It rarely gets it all off, and I'm almost always left with some glue residue. The BEST tape/sticker/glue/decal/stickum remover I've ever used is good old Hoppes #9 gun cleaning solvent. Hoppes (pronounced "hop-eeze") works much better than the other brands, especially the Outers brand. Besides, it smells so good! A close second to Hoppes #9 in glue removal (and about as good at gun cleaning) is Ed's Red, made of equal parts ATF, K-1, mineral spirits, and acetone. It's also about $4/gal, rather than the $4/8oz that Hoppes costs.

I had a camaro that had the 3 colored stripes along the whole bottom of the car and I had repair work done and the would not replace them on one side so I took them off the other side with a rubber disc on a bit that went into my drill, I bought it through a sears auto repair catalog, the rubber on it was like the rubber block you use to clean you belt sander with, this disc I bought was just for taking of decals and it worked great, it took a while to do but the only thing that came off was the decal.
I just went to the car wash and held the nozzle right up against the paint (not actually touching mind you) and blasted the hell out of the lettering on my truck. It did not mess up the paint or anything. The water was hot and it took off all of the glue as well. Worked great for me.
