I really hope that someone can help me here. I just found a truck that is almost perfect. It needs restoration, but the basics I want are there. Anyhow the guy who had it bought it from a friend who's father died. The father never put the title in his name. The truck has not been properly titled since 1979, and now I want to get a title. I have a bill of sale and the bill of sale that the guy who I am buying from got. Has anyone done anything like this? Any help would be appreciated.
That should not be a problem, you can pay a little extra and get a Bonded title
the bill of sale may be good enough if it has a notory stamp on it
I hate to deal with the MVD, Bunch of no goo..... bla bla bla!
good luck!
Adding to Bill, Each state is different, and your state might very slightly.
I would first contact your states DMV, they have the final say so anyways. The vin is stamped on top of the passenger side frame rail about or just ahead of where the axle crosses under. It might be a good idea to locate it prior to contacting them, only because sometimes it can be hard to dig out of the dirt.
