I was planning on cleaning the engine bay in my 96 Ranger. Is there really anything that needs to be protected from water? I remember the old days of distributors. You had to cover those up. With today's sealed components, is there anything that I need to cover or protect before spraying engine degreaser all over the the engine compartment?
I would cover the alternator and anything else you think might be water sensitive with a few paper towels and then a plastic bag and then use oven cleaner (no kidding) and spray the engine compartment. It will clean it better then degreaser.
HINT: If you goto walmart you will be able to buy an arisol can of tire shine, SPRAY IT ON ALL THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS. It will make them look brand new!!
