Reusing break pad - spousal debate

Im borrowing my husbands forum to hopefully prove Im right, or at least not completely wrong.
He relaced the rear pads on Sunday, but opted not to get the rotars turned, even though one was gouged, and he admits that was dumb.
On Monday my car battery died so Ihad to drive the truck, and put about 200 miles on it over three days.
On Friday, he decided to get the rotors turned as we have a long trip.
I said he should reuse the break pads but he you cant reuse the one side because it ran on the gouged rotor.
What do you think?
I also suggested resurfacing the pads. We have about 8 more hours in the car together to debate this.

As long as both the rotor and the pad have new, smooth mating surfaces you can use them. Just resurface the pad with sandpaper or something and reuse it.

so the pads only have a few hundred miles on them with the warped/gouged rotors?

they'll be good enough... it might take a few stops but their wear surfaces will soon match the turned rotors surfaces.

When you take them off, just make sure nothing is glazed...sandpaper or emory cloth works

2nd that ,clean up the pads with sandpaper IE; remove the glaze

your husband is going to regret giving you the password! haha...

I agree with the other posts... with minimal usage of the pad on the warped rotor has most likely not caused any serious damage to the pad... I would just sand it and run it

I agree with everyone else. Epecially since it's the rear pads.

Tell him we said so ,and also ask him this question. "Did you lube the caliper slide pins".
Because if he didn't ,now your even smarter than him.

If he did grease the pins, I hope it was with the high speed missle max required by Ford or the warranty will be voided.

Might was to double check that one.

"He also said he replaced the muffler bearing"

Ummmmm, that sure makes the "he confirmed he did lube slide pins" suspect!

Yeah just sand/deglaze the pads and wont have a problem in the world. I do it on a daily basis when resurfacing rotors and the brake pads still have plenty of life left. The pad is MUCH softer then the rotor, they will "conform" to to the surface of the rotor after just a few stops.

You should not have any problem with the pads, as noted in above posts.

Nice picture of the Muffler Bearing rework in progress! That will come in handy...

I hope he also topped off the headlight fluid while he was at it?
