My friends 99 needs headgaskets replaced and he said he talked to a guy and he said that ford shop pulls the cab to do this? I don't agree so I told him that I would check into it. anyone have experienced this and how did u do it?????thanks in advance
The new 6.4's virtually require the cab to come off to do ANYTHING to the motor. They really do have ten pounds in a five-pound bag.
The 6'0's will be easier to service major engine components with the cab lifted off.
The 7.3's don't have to have the cab off, but the Ford shops have adapted this method to work on them, as it really is easier for something as major as head gaskets.
Getting the cab off is easier with the newer trucks, as there are chassis disconnect plugs that the early ones don't have. The Ford garage may be tempted to just cut the wiring on an older truck and later splice it back together, and that would not be a good thing, reliability-wise.
That's just silly... You can pull a head yourself without having the cab off, why can't they? You do need something to lift 'em though. Heavy suckers... LOL If *I* were pulling heads, I'd be tempted to fire-ring it and DEFINITELY put in head studs. Is it overkill? Yep. But you'd never have to do it again.

Why would you fire ring??? Just factory gaskets will hold more then you want to throw at a stock bottom end... 50-60psi... Stud it and be done...
