2004 F150 FX4...150000 miles..while pulling into parking space in lot it feels like someone steps on the brakes..have to give it gas to force it into space..like giving gas with emergency brakes on..after I get back in and back out it's ok like nothing happened!!!!..and, sometimes if I take off pretty hard it feels like something in bed of truck that slides to back and makes "clunk" sound...this happens at random about once a month more or less..have talked to many with all sorts of ideas and tried many things starting with brake job, but no one can figure it out..does it sound like differential related? transmission prob? U joints? tansfer case prob?..any ideas? would some kind of scanner pick this up?
With that many miles it could be many things. I'd check the emergency brake to make sure it's completely released. It would drag more going forward than reverse. It could be internal in the transfer case or transmission. Not likely u-joints. See if there are any transmission or engine codes stored. If none, then you'll have to isolate things one at a time and check for binding.

I think you have a 4x4 issue on this symptom. Sounds like the IWE's are not disengaging. Common causes are the IWE vacuum Solenoid is shorted out, a large vaccum leak down stream of the solenoid, and recently people here have had issues with the check valves upstream of the solenoid.
For more info, Do a search for 'IWE System' and look at a post titled everything you wanted to know about the IWE system... and then some...' LOT of info in that post.
Good luck. O, and the clunk in the drive line. I have that too, i think that it is just all the slack in every componenet getting taken up on accleration. I've got 107K on my 04.
I agree with Fishin76. It sounds like your front hubs are engaged and when you make that sharp turn into the parking space it's binding up. You can do a quick check by jacking up one or both front wheels, start the engine and see if you can turn the front wheels freely or not. The clunking sound could be the slip joint on the drive shaft that needs lubricating.
