My 2005 Expedtion has a hissing noise coming from under the dashboard near the brake pedal. I was told it's the brake booster. Over $500 to replace @ dealership. Local parts store can get brake booster next day for only $75 with $40 core charge.
I was told by parts store I would have to out master cylinder, brake fluid container, and radiator overflow container , plus some bolts under dash to replace. He didn't recommend I attempt this fix....
Any other opinions about my ability to fix this? I am not a mechanic by any means...but handy around the house with plenty of tools.
Are there pics & directions on how to replace this?

We can't honestly answer this question any better than you can because we don't know what you have for tools, knowledge, and experience. Just keep in mind...we're talking brakes here.
Rather than tackle it alone, I'd be more comfortable saying, "go for it" if you had someone with experience to be there and help walk you through it as you go.
