Soon I will be ready to put a new exhaust on the 73 f100(302). Its a short wheel base truck and I am for sure going with true duals. I thought about having the pipe only ran to about the back off the cab then going into a pair of cherrybombs and then thats it. Anybody have any problems with the exhuast getting something hot that it shouldnt be like this? I know it will be pretty loud. I kinda like the way a truck looks when you cant see the exhaust coming out the back or out the sides. I've seen some people bolt glasspacks straight to their headers but I don't think I like that idea. Thanks.
On my 65 it dumps before the rear end and I've never had a problem.
That's not a bad idea. Turn-downs aiming towards the back of the truck just before the rear axle. That should push most of the exhaust fumes to the rear and I think you would only see it if you were looking for it. Having the exhaust bounce off the ground gives it a different sound also.
it also matters what you plan to do with this truck is it a street only truck do you ever race it 4x4 what I use a dual exauhst out the rear under a roll pan with cut outs before the muffler for the strip
I may have turn downs after the cherry bombs. Its just going to be driven on the street its 2wd. Both of my other trucks are fairly quiet so I wanted one to be loud, lol.
I never confirmed it myself but I've heard from some reliable guys that the Cherry Bombs have a necked down core compared to the inlets on some of the glasspacks. Flowtech Red Hots were recommended.
If you don't want to go over the axle exit the pipes out directly in front of the rear tires. The problem with dumps in front of the axle is they can bounch a lot of noise off the road and be annoying. I got duals out the back on my 74' 302 and like it a lot.
I heard you can also heat up the outside of a ol cherry bomb with a rose bud tip on a oxy torch, and then blast water in there to break up the fiberglass to make it louder.
But that might be a urban legend, ? I run headers to straight stacks on my mudder and do not worry about it. And YES its loud!
