Sluggish shift 1st-2nd under hard accel

I know this has been asked many times but i can't find anything dirrect. 2000 F250 Auto 4x4 has sluggish shift from 1st - 2nd when under medium to hard acceleration. I can't consider rebuild just yet. I am going to change or flush the fluid soon. Any suggestions?

It's not a slip, just slow followed by a solid engagement into 2nd.

What type of fluid/ conditioner?

Use MERCON V fluid. Any brand that is MERCON V will work fine. Synthetic is even better, I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

You probably have a worn 1-2 accumulator. That is in the valve body and can be fixed without removing the transmission. If the accumulator sticks one way you get soft shifts, if it sticks the other way you get harsh shifts.
