This might be a stupid question, but does it need to be adjusted to a base setting or does the computer take care of it?
The reason I'm asking is my 05 5.4 has a ping under light load, I tried higher octane fuel and it stayed the same?
I have an edge, I just wanted to be sure there wasn't some sort of base timing that I should do first.
Is there any way that the Intake manifold runner control could be causing the pinging? I don't know if its just a fluke but its seems to have been doing it since I changed it??
Same crap here with the V6, fresh BP 87 last 5 tanks, the terminal is here in my town. I find the 89 will cut the pinging when I'm towing my boat, but doesn't do much under normal driving. I prefer the Sunoco, it never pings, but they've been really on my nerves there lately, the guy who works most is always yakin' in his blue tooth loudly while he's talkin' to you and doesn't pay attention to his job. Almost had a disaster two weeks ago when he stuck the nozzle in the rod holder of my boat instead of the fuel port that I opened for him, I just saw it in time to prevent more than a few drops, I really chewed him out too. Try a different gas it might stop.
