I was at the junkyard today looking for an IDM. The counterguy refered to it as a computer. I tried to tell him that it controlled the Injectors but he was pretty flippen sure it was a computer. I saw something it the lDM I did a mod to that resembled a processor but I don't think it is.
If you were to dump a program in your truck, where is it stored? What is the component called?
behind the e-brake assembly. take the 3 bolts off the e brake, then go under the hook take off the wire harness and 2 more bolts"i think" and pull it out from behind the e-brake.

You (we) can also use the IDM from Super Duties. These are much harder to remove than the OBS as they are further down the fender. All IDM's are interchangable between '94 - '03.
Now the SD ECM (same as our PCM) is easier to get to than the OBS, under dash, driver's side.

The programming/tuning of the truck goes via the ECM/PCM so they are different for Splits & Singles.
The IDM's only job is to charge the solenoids of the injectors (basically), so it doesn't care if they are Split or Single shot. It just want's to know when to charge the solenoids and for how long.
FWIW, I have an actual IDM hooked to a lap-top that runs my flow bench.
Good deal! Actually I do have a stinky Cali model. What I am hearing is that I could use a ECM then. Will a newer ECM let me pop wheelies? would it give it more horses?
You would need to get a custom chip like a TW, DP Tuner, or PHP that will run the bigger single-shots. You'd have to do that anyways if you got bigger injectors though even if you did have the single-shots already.
