Hi to all, need some much needed advice i found a 1978 f250 crecawb 2wd 300 6 with 4 speed runs great and no rust which i can pick up for $1400.00 and also found a 78 f150 shortbed 4x4 reg cab. if you guys could answer my questions would be alot of help
crewcab
i do not know if it is a shortbed or long i pulled out a a tape and it measured 7ft i thought short was 6 and long 8 ?
plan on doing a 4x4 conversion with motor swap
was wondering what was easier cutting and welding the frame
or lengthening a long bed frame or using mine with custom front suspension
reg cab
already shortbed 4x4 and automatic
downfall when me and wife start having kids little hard to fit everybody
also assuming would not pull a boat as good as a longerwheelbase
i plan on keeping the truck for a very long time it seems the crewcabs are more valuable in the long run
any thoughts and answers would be great thank you
6 3/4' is a short bed. Umm if a long bed Crew is what you are after find a 4x4 SuperCab frame and lengthen it. A SuperCab frame is way bigger than a regular cab frame. Im talkin about the depth of the frame rails.
Those Forest service trucks are driven hard and put away wet, granted they do receive regularly scheduled maintenance but they live a rough life, just something to consider, why not just hold out for the truck you really want and save all that work a 4x4 conversion would require, if you're really bent on getting one of the two trucks you listed i'd opt for the 78 4x4 shortbed, JMO.
OR you could just get a 4x4 crewcab chassis and swap the cab over....hint..hint...dave
you can find the 4x4 crews but the chance of finding a crew 4x4 that doesn't have rust..now that is a find, I have 4 crews and other dentsides and the crew cabs are in the process of a cab swap but I have 4x4 crew chassis' available
I think im heading the same route as trent and stretching a supercab 4wd chassis. Alot less hassle that way. And being a fabricator by trade it wont be that big a deal. And from what ive learned from the rock crawlers and desert racers i can make it strong as hell
negative batman. 2wd and 4wd coil suspensions differ. The supercab frame im using is a 250 4wd. its already got leafs up front. If i wasnt so har headed id just bolt my rearends up and go but things are never that easy with me. Still tossin the 4 door bronco idea around.
geeyork heres a link to my build thread. I need to update some pics. Ive completed the spring hangers to convert the 4wd frame but ive decided to go a different route but its a good start for you.
