Hi, im new to the forum, but im having a problem with my battery in my '07 ranger fx4. My truck refused to start the other day after listenign to the radio for maybe 10 minutes with it not running, So i got it jumped and drove home with no problems. got back here and checked it, it was low so i chaged it up. drove it for 2 days no problems really. then yesterday i went to start it and again.... dead. I checked the battery with the engine off and its at 12.3v and when i start the truck and idle its gettin 13.9-14v, so im assumign the alternator is still working fine. The battery light indicator still shows green, but im wondering if this battery is down for the count or maybe i have a larger problem somewhere else?
Also, f it needs replacing what are some other batteries put in its place that arent the factory ones. maybe some with a lil more power than the bxt-59 as i will eeventually be running a winch and extra ligths on mine.
go to an autozone or one of the chain parts stores (orielly, pepboys) and get them to check you charging system. There is a chance there is a dead cell that will give ya the surface charge of 13v but not hold a charge. I use a red top optima in my 94, cost a little more but they last longer if you keep them clean and charged by running it and charging if low. These batteries (optima) or Hawker are recommended for use by the military since they last longer with proper install etc. they offset the costs so its a commanders call to go free liquid or gel pac.
I like Hank85713 idea to have the electrical systems output properly load tested & most autoparts stores will do it at no cost, with all componens in the vehicle, via their portable electrical system tester. Properly used, it'll likey sniff out the problem.
Once you have an idea whats wrong & seeing as how it's an 07 Ranger & likely still under warranty, why not make it the Dealers & Fords problem!!!!
