cam senor issues

Hey folks, my cam sensor crapped out the other day. I replaced it (O'Reilly) and was back on the road. Now every once in a while when I'm driving it will hesitate (die for a split second) throw a light and continue on as if nothing were wrong. Then (on vacation of course) it just would not start at all, I got a ride to O'Reilly and bought another sensor thinking that maybe the other one was bad, put it in and off we went with no issues. Now it is doing it again, not completely dieing, just a really hard hesitation and the ses light.

When I replaced the sensor for the second time I cleaned the connector really good with brake clean and contact cleaner thinking that might be an issue but now I really don't know.

Thanks for your help

The CPS's from the parts stores can be hit or miss... you really need to buy one from Ford or IH.

I would also get a back or grey CPS from the dealer, also make sure you have the plug in there tight, it always helps to have a good connection.

The original black ones can no longer be had at Ford or International. The "updated" gray ones (that can still cause problems) are the only ones available.

You can get the "old" black ones off of ebay, but they are used, guaranteed to work tho.

Thought so, just putting it down just in case his has one or two left. I wonder if DP tuner has the black ones still?

DP Tuner is long sold out of the black ones. I have 2 used black CPS from Ebay and an IH black CPS from Clay in my glovebox. The IH one is mine, the black ones are for some unlucky guy I might run into on the road someday

My local IH had 3 black ones left 2 weeks ago when I ran in there. He had em in his drawer. Dunno how much he was charging for them but he said they were more expensive than the grey ones.

Said now that Ford is doing the recall he might be stuck with them.

A new in the box black CPS is almost as coveted as a gold bar from Ft. Knox these days
