5.8l problems

well i wasnt sure were to start my post so i figured this would be a good place... even if i have to get directed else were.
Anyways my problems lies here with my 351 that wont start up ... it will turn over but wont start... i have already checked to see if there is fuel which there is... i have also taken out the ignition module and have gotten it tested came out ok ... then i moved on to my ignition coil which i couldnt find anyone that really knew how to test it so i bought one anyways so new coil in and no start up ... so for safe measures i went ahead and changed out new plugs and wires and still nothing. Now i am thinking maybe i am not gettin any current to my coil? were do i go from here? thanxs for any input ... and again i apologize if this is not the correct area to post for this type of question.

are you getting spark to the coil/plugs

sounds like your PIP in the dizzy is shot. when you pulled the plugs where they wet or dry?

Pull the codes from the computer.. or at least attempt to, if you can't get anything then either it's not getting power or is toasted. If it checks out OK and returns the all clear code 11 or 111 then your problem is most likely the distributor.

Yes.. see www.fordfuelinjection.com for details and pics of where everythign is located.

The basic idea is to put a jumper between Sig_Rtn and STI of the EEC test harness, turn the key to run and the codes will flash on the check engine light.

I read the posts, and I am not seeing this answere, so let me ask...

Are you getting spark, before the distributer?

I other words, if you take the center wire off the cap, does it spark?

If it does, then the problem lies in your distributor, as I am sure you figured, I would look at simple goofy things, like. The rotor, is the center steel pickup touching the cap. My opinion is throwing money at it, may eventually fix it, but thats the expensiv way

kemicalburns ...i took out the distributor last week to replace the pick up coil in the distributor so i dont belive that the distributor is bad.
-mustang6147... i am not gettin a spark from the coil plug at all but there is power going to the coil. the coil is negative(-) and positive(+) but when i hit the key they go from (-)(+) to positive positive (+)(+) and someone told me that is how its suppose to be...

FYI.. the distributor has to be completely dismantled to replace the pickup coil, and that means pull the drive gear so the shaft can be removed from the housing.

Did you check the ohms of the coil??? also double check the wires going between them ( not the ignition wires but little control wires) Seems you are narrowing it down though

I apologize for hijacking this thread but I am having the exact same problem. I have a 66F100 with a 351W in it. No spark to distributor. Not sure if it matters but I'm putting in Duraspark II system. So far, I have replaced, distributor, module, coil, plugs, and spark plug wires. Based on wiring diagrams that I found, it appears to be wired correctly. What I don't know is how it is wired after the starter relay to the ignition switch and then back out from the ignition switch. clear as mud? Any and all help is great. Thank you. Dan
