Much to my dismay they don't make the old style BFG MTs anymore. I have ran them for years and loved the. So the siver queen was ready for some new shoes. I got a pretty good deal on a set of 35/12.5/R17 BFG KM2's at Discount. I now have 2K miles on them. Went 1500 then got a vibration, could have bee sooner I just don't hit the interstate that often. Had then rebalanced, two were out an oz. Pulled the toy hauler about 500 miles and on the way back got a vibration again at about 65-70. Had them balanced again, this time explained that this was the third balance. They used two machines to verify they were indeed balanced. They said one tire was 2 oz out. I how have less than 100 miles and got a bad (worse than previous) vibration at 45 mph. Anyone else have issues with these tires?
Mine have 22K miles on them and have been awesome riding tires considering the fact that they are mud tires. I have kept them rotated and balanced every 5k miles with no issues. I would see if I could trade those lemons in for a new set. That is way to early for that to be happening.
I haven't looked at a set of MT's lately, but the AT/KO's I had on the old truck had rim protectors that routinely threw clip-on balance weights. Within 4 blocks of the tire store. The way the rim protector rolled over the edge of the rim neatly rolled the weights off the rim.
We finally had to resort to stick-on weights inside the rim.
i dont have the muds but i just bought a set of the new E-load all terrain and i cant stand them. my cousin is a manager at the local camping world and we mounted them with these sand bag weight things, and the tires vibrate at 55 to 65 mph all the time. last night i went back and we tore them down again, sucked out the sand and redid them and they still vibrate. so tomorrow im going back and were gonna sticky weight the wheels like i always do and hopefully this fixes the problem.
They are using the sticky weights since I have aftermarket aliminum wheels without the lip on the rim. they have used two different balancing machines. Yesterday I took them back. They found one of the tires was out of round so they replaced it. Balanced the rest again. They have been really good to work with. He said if any of the others start to give me problems they will just replace them.
I had a set of 305/65/18 BFG AT installed and had to keep bringing them back due to balance issues. They had to mount nine tires on my truck before I had a set of four good ones.
I have seen this before... Here is what it has been from my past experience. The rim is coming apart slowly. Take the tire off the rim. I am assuming it is the same tires doing this.
With the tire off the rim, run the rim on the balancer, whatch it from the side, it will wobble a bit, if it is flawed. Either that or a belt is slipping.
I had steel rims, stock tires, I developed a vibration, found 1 out, then a week later same thing. when I unmounted the tire, the weld in the center, going around had split. The tire preassure on the bead was slowly spreading it out.
Have they taken the tires off and mounted them back on 180.
They have rotated the tires on the truck but I don't think they rotated them on the wheel. The one that was out of round was on the rear, when they rotated it to the front the vibration got way worse and at lower speed.
I have a couple hundred miles on them after replacing the bad tire, seems to be way better. If I have any more issues I will have them look at the rims. Tires and rims were brand new so that could be the problem. I will update in a week or two.
