lol exactly. i was also told that i would get a 3 dollar an hour raise in 30 days after start of work. i grad on june 14 and started working june 16. july 16...hello!!!???? where's my raise? lol thats another reason i left. my girlfriends dad has me doing construction for him. as well as my dad. here in a week or so im doing a roof for 1000 in 5 days. i wasnt about to get the abuse that i was getting and not make what i want. thats where great or poor management plays a roll in keeping employees. in my opinion just from reading what you first said, i would love to work for a guy as leanient as you. not an ******* and take abuse for the same amount of pay. just my 2 cents
ford i totally understand but my thing is the treatment i was gettin like that has been going on since the beginning of july. there's only so long i can just "blow" it off. but o well. only a month till i go to Wyotech guys! anyone want their trucks worked on when i grad? lol
Hmm Hep. C is a SERIOUS virus! People don't just catch it. It is transmitted the same way as HIV/AIDS. What kind of character is he? and where has he been in life and what are some of his accomplishments. You think he is a dug user? You know how to tell?
I would have a talk w/him (if he ever shows up). 1st thing I would do set him straight as to where his position is in the chain. I would have a conversation about your age differences and how he feels about it. I would also tell him to never talk down to you (lazy a$$ etc.). I would explain everything to him, like proper proceedures for calling out etc. I would let him know he is on thin ice and not to give me a reason to let him go. It is dificult to give more advice w/o knowing the guy. Although everyone on the team should be working for the same goal, people are individuals and should be counseled accordingly so. YOU set the tone! YOU are in charge! Don't let him take over.
Just My Opinion
Oh yeah, welcome to supervisory/leadership position and delimas. Remember leaders are not born they are made. You are still learning yourself so go easy. Good luck
well...it's gotta be a little weird for him...i know i tend to have a different type/level of respect toward supervisors who are considerably older than me. that being said: he chose to work for you, and the request seems reasonable to me. maybe he had a bad day *shrugs* i believe in second chances though cause i'm nice like that
People make mistakes, you sound reasonable, if he has only stepped out of line once, sit down with him, ask him if he meant everything he said, I bet he didn't! I agree with Miss I, I think he had a bad day... We all deserver a second chance, and if you don't tolerate peoples mistakes once in a while you will lose a lot of very good people...
How ever if he comes back a second time with the "you are a lazy $0B" I'd give him walking papers...
My son is 34 and has a crew doing metal roofing on churches. He works twice as hard as they do, including working 5AM-5PM in OK, they quit at 3 because it too hot. I've seen him MAD but they don't get the pic. He says" The 2 rules to plumbing are S... runs down hill, the Boss is always right. Any questions?"
hey guys. my lazy butt just got in after only working 16 hours today. he's gone. he called me today after not hearing from him all week. he starts telling me how crazy things have been for him. i said yup, try working two 40 hour shifts trying to pick up someone's slack. i told him i would send him his check and he said he was sorry and wanted to come back to work. i told him as of now he's fired. he confirmed what i figured....hung over monday, then been drunk all week. then he appologized and said that he counted me his friend and didn't want to get old and die with no wife and no friends. i'm usually pretty big with the sympathy, but i can't stand the thought of him coming in drunk/hungover and wrecking my dumptruck or something. oh well.
Good training! You grew a little. You will be better suited for the next time. Don't let sympathy get you down. You are your worst enemy. Remember he did this to himself! He is the worst kind of alcoholic there is. Atleast I am a FUNCTIONING alcholic, lol.
You handled that well!
thanks guys. its just hard to find someone who will take care of your equipment like he would. no pieces was ever started and ran EVER until oil was checked, hydro, air filter, greased, all that crap. thats what sucks, and the fact that while he worked for me everything was done right the first time, and yards were always perfectly in grade, it was all like id should have been. oh well, the way the job market is, someone else will come along. i will hold off to hire again till spring probably though, and save quite a bit of money a week.

i personally don't drink at all. but, if one of my employees does, then its thier own business as long as its not interfering with work. however, his ruined a whole work week in a busy time. i'm booked solid for over a month with dirt and gravel work besides my regular mowing.
Hey 2 stroke, looks like you've had an interesting week to say the least. Looks like it's all panning out for you though. If you get a chance, check out the Ky Chapter. We are planning a get together in september, probably in Lexington.
