I towed my wifes 96 F-150 home on Sunday after it left her stranded. It has no spark, and no trigger pulses to the injectors. Fuel pressure is good, all fuses are good, no codes. I pulled the "spout" connector and cranked the engine and have spark with it removed but still no pulses to the injectors. Replaced the TFI module (remote) and no change. All the rest of my Fords are either bumpsides or dentsides. This is the newest I've got and it has me stumped..................Any place I can find troubleshooting info on this %*&*( thing?
Key on power to the injectors? Probalby same line feeds the coil but wouldn't hurt to verify.
If power is present with the key in the crank/run position at the injectors I'd look to the PIP as the problem (PIP - Profile Ignition Pickup) Computer doesn't know the motor is rotating? no fuel is delivered.
Yes Dave, same one. If I pull the "spout" connector out and put my spark tester on the coil HV lead the spark will pulse as the engine cranks. I tried squarting a small amount of starting fluid into the intake and the engine will run. If I put the spout connector back the spark is gone............
Damn truck.....................
I Tried everything today. Results: Fuel pump will not come on when Ign is turned on. Replaced Fuel relay with good one, no change.
Check engine light does not come on at all. Replaced burned out bulb, still won't come on at all.
All fuses and fusible links OK.
All relays OK.
Power at coil, OK.
Power to injectors, just no ground pulse from EEC.
If I pull the spout connector and spray starting fluid into intake the engine will start and run, this leads me to believe the coil and secondary is OK.
This 96 has a completely different plug than my code reader. All the drawings I've found show the plug like my 88 has. I havent been able to find a drawing that shows the pinout for this plug.
Excuse me for interrupting but can I ask about this SPOUT connector. I got that it has something to do with spark. Lately ive seen it a lot and the book, instead of just saying "this does this" is sort of runs around it and involves all kinds of poking and prodding to test. Can someone explain what unplugging it does and when its plugged in what it does? Id appreciate that. Thanks!
Have you openned up the computer to see if there were signs of corrosion, or a burned circuit? Kind of agree with Neptoess but need to see if the computer is bad.
Also, shouldn't that 96 be OBD II and not the older OBD I? If it is OBD II you can just get a 60 dollar OBD II code scanner that will read the codes out to you if it can connect.
