I did the self test on this 1992 f350 with the 460 and 5 spd, and came up with a couple of things.
in the countinuous memory I got a 33 which is the egr not opening (probably need to clean it) and 85 which says "canister purge solenoid circuit failure".
what the hell is the canister purge solenoid and where is it so I can check it out?
also it takes like 20-30 minutes of continueous driving for the check engine light to come on.
All I can tell you about it is there are some sort of hoses that run to it. I dont have a lot of stuff on my truck so ill try to tell you... There is a charcoal canister in the front of the truck by the radiator, correct? There are vacuum lines coming off of it and they go toward the firewall by the A/C stuff and heater blower motor, correct? This in turn goes into the (mine is fuel injected) intake plenum, yes? That valve where it goes by the heater blower motor is the purge valve.
As you know the charcoal canister takes in gas fumes and holds on to them. When the engine is running (dont know when, probaby when its warm) the purge valve opens and lets in the trapped, unburned vapors.
