First posting for this group. Live in Rosewood Heights in Illinois, that just outside of St.Louis Mo. Been reading the various threads for quite some time. Had problem in signing on finally got it done. Not much to offer; I'm a old school home mechanic. These new mechanics may be alright but it has been a real learnig curve to figure out problems with them. Drove Ford trucks for 30 years, and just about every used car models you can imangine. Always had Dodge as my 4 x 4 vechicle. They were perty tough. I had decided to buy a Ford 4 x 4. I have a 96 F 250 with 460 motor. This truck has been a real bad one. Been thinking about trading it in on another Dodge 4 X 4. Then I going back to a straight 2 wheel drive Ford. I bought the 96 used 17,000 miles. At around 25,000 I needed a new computer and the front brakes crap out. I now have 70,000 and I put 4 sets of brakes on it. Diffrent manufactures, went thru the master cylinder, rework the calipers, I don't ride the brakes are pull heavy loads. Go figure. At 30,000 I started to have vaious emissions problems. The engine is a dog! Now at 70,000 I kept hearing a noise and it felt like brakes again. Nope back in the Winter Ice Storm I had my truck in 4 wheel drive when I really needed it it fail. I was at a slight angle on a grade and I slowy started foward and I heard a loud boom from the front. I lost the 4 wheel drive. Needless to say my brother in law pull me to the main hjighway. We were on hunting trip. It's where you really need 4 wheelers, mule & wagon are huff it in on foot. Well the truck drove alright and I did not here any noise coming from the front in. So I drove it! I would look at if it started to make noise are when It warm up and I could work on it. Went about 2 months. I had here a scraping noise and the wheel pulling to the left. Well I just pull the hub a part and what ever was in there is gone. Last spring when I did my bearing check and grease the bearings every thing had look good. This is the 3rd packing since I own it. That why I am here to day. I'm going to check the old threads and see if anyone has dealt with this problem. And what they did. I like to change from automatic to manual lock ins. But guys & gals enough of this. I really like Ford trucks the one I have now has been just a little tempermental. So I'll chat with you all later.

For info on your 96 F250 use the 1987 - 1996 F150 And Larger F-Series Trucks forum.
Thanks for the reply, I just completed the job. It was a real mess. Inside of hub had exploded. Look foward to the future I post a thread in the 96 Forums when I get feeling a little better.

No time like the present to tell your story. That is a story worth re-telling and it would be worth reading in the 96 forum as Morris mentioned. Then the experts can help you out.
