rust repairs...

rust repairs...

So my undercarrige is starting to rust a bit....and i'm looking for opinions on the best thing to start repairs with.....stuff like the control arms, frame welds.....ect are starting to rust on my 07......give me some advice

If they are areas you can get to with a wire brush or wire wheel , clean off the loose material ,Clean the area well ,(brake cleaner works well) . Then cover the areas with one of the rust converting products . Most seem toe like PORS.They say if you use that one ,to not get it on anything other than the truck . It will remain there for a long time (skin especially)...

Action is correct. For POR15, you do not have to go to clean bare metal, but you do have to remove any loose material. Also I would scuff up the surrounding areas with 36 grit paper. Then spray POR15 on the areas that had rust and the surrounding areas you sanded. If its at a spot where exposed to sunlight, let it set up a little bit, then top coat with black spray paint. The POR needs to be tacky, otherwise the top coat will just flake off. And like Action said, be careful when using the POR15, if you get it on your skin, unless you take it off immediatly with thinner, you will have to wear it off. Trust me, my hands were black for a few days, even with using hand cleaner with pumice in it.
