Want to be able to improve my mileage and towing of 2004 6.0 but I don't know which way to go. chips, tuners programmers, what is the difference?
Neighbor had an edge installed but been reading here they may not be that great. All I am looking to gain is better towing and mileage options, not high horsepower.Switcability on the go would be nice. Does anybody understand all this sales jargon, I hate to buy something I don't need or want.. Thanks for you advice..
some one here will answer your programmer questions. SCT sounds like the way to go with a custom tune(program). one thing you should use is a fuel additive. i use Stanadyne. great stuff. the diesel in the USA is crap. The additive will help. My truck runs better and i get 18mpg in town with it. 15mpg with out it and truck doesn't run as good (noticeable power decrease).
You should definitely stay away from any of the generic tuners which can cost you much more in engine and transmission repairs than you can every save in increased MPG. Do a forum search on SCT and Spartan, they are pretty highly recommended.
Also remember that even the best tunes can cause damage if used improperly. Check out this thread as an example:
