I have a early 1999 power stoke . I had a cheep fuel filter blow a gasket and soak the engine . I fixed the bad filter and cleaned the engine with gunk degreaser and a gentle stream of water from a garden hose. I let the engine dry and the truck started fine afterward. Now the truck idles fine, but has a lack of power when accelerating. It takes a long time for the truck to get up to speed. As far as I can tell the fuel pressure is good and I can't find any other problems with the truck. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Welcome to FTE. The more info you give us, the better ideas we might have.
Tell us more about the "cheap" fuel filter. Is there a chance it let stuff by the filter? Does the engine idle smooth now? What do you consider a long time to get up to speed? How long did it used to take? What speed are you getting up to? When you washed the engine, what all did you cover? Have you checked your air filter lately? Engine oil full and not past due for a change?
I've never used gunk on a 7.3. Anyone here know if it will hurt the boots on the IC plumbing?
cheap" fuel filter from autozone I have used there filters lots and no trouble . This time the box wasn't the same it was a different color . the gasket for the top seal that is the big beveled gasket that goes bevel up on the housing to seal the filter seemed to be made of a different rubber . I had clean the filter bowl do to fuel heater going out and changed the filter I drove the truck for about to days and that is when the gasket blew out. now the truck starts and idles fine and if under full throttle it will make no boost but if I hit a bump it comes to life from time to time . I am out of ideas so any help would be great thanks
I washed the truck this morning about 6:00AM and started it about 6:30PM . I don't know what it could be but if I hold it to the floor you don't get any EGT change but if it is on the floor and starts to come on it will shoot the boost gauge to 26 and runs like a champ . but it comes on like if you hit a bump or just out of the blue.
Might have air in the fuel lines that is working it's way out. Drive it some more and heat it up good. Might have water in a connection somewhere. If it is water related it will hopefully evaporate away.
Happened to me too -Filter from Auto Zone- The top cap was warped.
Coated everything including half the windshield in Diesel fuel.
I used GUNK also. No problems only that it smells worse than Diesel.
Maybe check ICP sensor connection and ebp sensor connection.
