my new combo

well i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on my new combo for my truck

.030 over 302 roller block
300 intake/ 310 exhaust adv. duration, duration @ .050 of 224 intake and 234 exhaust, Valve lift of .496 intake and .520 exhaust, Lobe C/L is 112
(cam is a hydrolic cam non roller because i don't have the funds for a roller cam and this cam is already in my truck)
iron gt-40 heads that have been lightly ported with bigger valves
edelbrock rpm airgap intake manifold
dss main girdle
forged pistons around 9.5-10:1 compression
stock rods (reconditioned)
stock crank (reconditioned)
570 holley vac. secondary
125 shot of nitrous
headers+2.25in dual exhaust
1.6:1 roller rockers
hei dissy with mallory coil and accell internals frpp plug wires

personally i think the cam should be a solid cam or a hydro roller cam of similar specs maybe a bit bigger

i also don't think the carb is big enough but this is my first attempt of running a smallblock

oh ps the tranny is an aod with a 3500 converter, shift kit and the rear has 4.56 gears with 33in tires

and anyone have any idea what i should be shifting at i think 6k just because the cam starts to run out of power around there and hydro lifters arn't much good past 6k but i was thinking about shifting at 6500-7k if i put in a bigger (solid) cam can stock rods hold up to that?

You need to find out what rpm your HP starts to drop off , you dont want to rev to far past that , its hard to tell because the 302 revs so fast , a dyno is a good way to tell or try shifting it sooner & see if its faster , I was shifting past 6000 but it was faster at 5800 . I have a little more cam lift than you but your cam has alot more duration , Lew

If you get me the cam grind number I'll run it through DesktopDyno, I bet you're just making noise reving it past 5500rpm but who knows.

desk top dyno are good but you cant beat the real thing. There are too many variables to it. Cam timing can move the power around up into the rpm or lower down depending on where it sits. Unless you vernier adjustable gears setting the cam timing on a engine can be ......... well.......... as good/ close as you can get it sometimes.

I do think 7k rpm is pushing it though unless you have a far bigger cam.

1966Tbird : My engine that im building isnt far off what you have there except for EFI and dizzy stuff.

It should be running within a week so ill let you know how i go with it.
