multifunction switch?

multifunction switch?
the connectors at the multifunction switch one is getting hot enough to melt the plastic connector (the smaller one of the two) which i believe low and high beams go through since low beams were acting funny
lights are standard watts
no extra light,all stock
what would cause the short to where the connector start to melt?
my thoughts are to change the wiring in the column
maybe the daytime running module?
what else?

The stock system is poorly designed from an electrical standpoint. Replace the switch and install a headlight relay harness. This takes the electrical load off the stock system. The harness also increases the brightness of your stock bulbs, and increases your options on brighter ones.

I had a problem with my multi-function switch a few years ago (99 EB explorer). The windshield wipers would intermitantly come with out turning the switch. One day when I turned on the left turn signal, smoke came out of the hole for the hazard light switch. I purchased a new multi-funtion switch and installed it. The connector looked a little melted/darkened, but, I plugged it in anyway and it has been fine ever since.
