Question Bad Experience Mudding ... 4X4 Not engaging

I think my front diff does not engage , today, I was going up a steep hill and there was about 2" of mud on the trail. I had to try 4 or 5 times, but the front wheel never spun.
Not long ago, i installed Warn hubs and obviously they were in the lock position. The transfer switch was also on the 4lock. But the front wheel never helped me... where should i start looking to get it working

I am driving a 2004 Excursion 6.0 L Limited

It sounds like the transfer case is not engaging. If you're not sure they are spinning go to a gravel road and stop, spin the wheels and try is agian while locked. There are a few reasons for the case not to engage but the most common is the selenoid switch. Make sure you are getting power to it. Sometimes it is a relay which you can switch with the one next to it for a test. Do a search and you will find plenty of info on the transfer case.

Do you have to get out and lock the hub on the Warn conversion? were you able to still switch them between free and locked?
You tried both 4Hi and 4Lo?
Did you cap your vacuum lines when you did the conversion? Are you able to hear the transfer case switching over? did the 4x4 light come on?

I had a similar experience. It turned out that I didn't have enough forward motion for the hubs to engage after I locked them, as I was clear stuck and pretty well sunk by the time I got to it. I tried both the auto and the manual lock on the hubs. When I got out I was able to verify that they did in fact engage If I could go forward some once I hit the button.

Yes, it is important to lock your wheels BEFORE you anticipate needing them. I learned my lesson when I backed off a steep back road to turn around and ended up against a big rock and the front wheels spinning. I knew I had my # 2 option though; manual lock. I guess the warn hubs would take a slight movement to engage. I have ESOF.

Yes I had the hub engage way befor getting to the hill so there was quite a bit of forward movement.
When i installed the Warn hubs, i folded the air line and put 2 tyrap... may be there is a leak... what happen if there is a vacuum leak ?

Your defrost would default and come on but it won't affect your trans case.

Spin your u-joints by hand or big screwdriver to see if they are locking.

To me the main question would be... Did you hear the transfer case engage? Especially if going into 4Lo. Mine is very audible with a CLUNK!!

My guess would have been the transfer case switch motor. I've had 2 go in 2 years. Supposedly a bad design...

Light was on but nobody was movin'...
