headlights are foggy

I have a 1990 F150 and the headihts have years of grime and abuse on them. I want to bring them back to original condition (or close to) without replacing them. My mechanic suggested using rubbing compound to do this have tried but not working very well. Has anyone had experince with this or no of a product that will help. Thanks

Try a product called "Scratch out" made by KIT. Just follow the
directions on the yellow bottle and you will be amazed at how clear
your headlight lenses will be. It's cheap too, only around 2 bucks.

ScratchOut is great stuff. Fingernail scratches around the door handle? Takes 'em right out. Will also bring back a nice gloss to paint that has a lot of haze from fine scratches and swirl marks. Works on old paint and C/C finishes, too.

I believe it's made by Formula One (not at home right now, and that's where all my car-care stuff is), but you can buy it at any good auto parts place (Auto Zone, Pep Boys, maybe even Wal-Mart or K-Mart). You can't miss the bottle- it's the brightest shade of YELLOW you've ever seen! Or, check out this site for a picture:

Hope this helps!

Does this work on the plastic headlight housings too? The ones on my 97 look almost milky and 2 bucks sounds a lot better than $140 to replace them.

I could not find Scratch Out, but someone at Schuck's recommended Meguire's Clear Plastic Polish. Has anyone heard of this, and do you know if would work the same way?

I just saw a pair being sold each for $2 starting bid on eBay, and they looked clear.

If you`re familar with a high speed buffer than you could buff them out using a wool pad and meguiar`s #3 glaze.
