Can any of you recommend a set of calipers for my 06 250. I have had nothing but problems with the factory ones. Everytime that i have had them repaired or replaced under warrenty within weeks the freeze up or stick again. Im at the point where i wont go on a trip with the truck because i would have to haul a fuel tanker behind me for the fuel i use. Now that i have whinned can you guys recommend a good set to replace the stocks ?
Thanks all
I wouldnt let Ford off the hook, they did the repaires, and obviously something is wrong. It seems thery are doing a plug and play thing and they need to be trouble shooting the cause.
I have 47000 miles, original pads / rotors. Not much sign of wear either.
I agree with Mustang. The brakes in our rigs are pretty good. It sounds like this particular dealer doesn't take you seriously enough. Can you go to another dealer?
I have 70K on my 350 with the original pads (maybe I should take a look at them?)
You can find rebuilts from most stores. I suspect the big remans are doing them under the white boxes, so they should be okay. However if you want an upgrade, SSBC is the only option I've found as a bolt on. They got rid of the big upgraded 4-8 piston and fixed position, but they still had the quick change/force 10 multi-piston sliding caliper last time I looked.
my b-in law has hasd issues with his rea calipers on his 06-250, hes got 39k and just replaced one and said the other is acting up now??? I have 50k on my truck in sig and all are good!
The dealer has replaced both rear calipers because they froze. They have disassembled both fronts and rebuilt them and said they were ok. They did the fronts after my warrenty was up(37500) so they always treat me pretty well. I only drive the truck once or twice a week so it does sit abit. But today i drove it and again one of them is hanging up. It doesnt always do it but every now and then it does and it is beyond warrenty. I was just thinking about putting a good aftermarket caliper to eliminate the problem all together.
There has to be a reason behind them freezing up that often. It might do the same thing to aftermarkets if you don't cure the underlying issue. Have you had the brake fluid flushed out and replaced? If your brake fluid is wet, it could be corroding the innerds of the calipers and causing the problem system wide. It takes awfully bad luck to get 6 defective calipers.
A suppose anything is possible. Water in there could be it, that i will investigate tommorow. Also, ive been serching aftermarket calipers and for my truck there is very limited options that i have found. Thanks for your all your thoughts....

IMO, after 6 calipers any shop that did not already do a complete flush/clean of the system and a complete point by point inspection is staffed by a bunch of tech school drop outs...you might NOT want them near it!
Don't **** them off though, they ARE messing with your brakes!

My ***. The rotors are undersized and warp, the slides are prone to seizing, and the overall brake feel does not inspire confidence at all.
Did the shop check the ABS unit???? They can stick and keep pressure in the lines. But more often then not the solenoid that caused it retracts when the lines are bleed.
Brought the truck to the dealer today and had them change the oil and check the brakes. The mechanic told me everything looked fine, that nothing was frozen. To pacify me he flushed and changed the brake fluid. He said that they very rarley have anyone with caliper problems unless the truck has been sitting, then the slides are rusting. I guess im just a jonah !! Also, i have been looking for calipers for the 06 and havent been able to find any besides the factory rebuilts. Any suggestions ?
Thanks
I was going to say that but it sounds like he's already a little sensitive about the subject
If you want to try crappy brakes drive my Denali. That thing scares me!
If you want to try the best brakes in the world try a Porsche!
I hate my brakes. They give me nightmares. Literally, I will wake up in the middle of the night looking for the damn brake pedal in my bed, and not being able to find it, think my brakes aren't there.
Why in the world Ford would think putting small brakes on a vehicle that weighs roughly 6,000 - 8,000 lbs. and often pulls roughly 4,000 - 6,000 lbs. is beyond me. I saw a new Camaro the other day and talked to him. His rear rotors were bigger than my fronts. WTF, Ford!
