Yup. Mine quit working about 2 years ago. I don't think it's very common cause I didn't get much respone from it. I'm horrible with electrical stuff so troubleshooting it is kinda tough. I don't really know where to begin......
I got so spoiled with the one on my Excursion that when I was shopping for my 250, back-up sensors were the main option all the trucks I looked at had to have.
I hope mine never break, I am spoiled, spoiled, spoiled by them.
Mine was not working when I bought my truck used but I had a neighbor who had an OTC scanner who scanned it for me and it said the right rear sensor was bad. Ordered a new one and has been working for better than two years now. See if you can find somebody with a scanner that reads more than the engine codes and you should be golden. I would be willing to bet it is just one of the sensors.
I doubt that this is your problem, but check the plugs for them. I was messing with mine one day and the broke one of the clips that holds it down so it will not stay plugged in now. I had to rig it up with a hose clamp to get it to stay connected. If you haven't touched the plugs though, then I doubt that is your problem. If one is not plugged in, then none of them will work. I am guessing that is the same way if one sensor is bad, then the other sensors will not work.
I am talking about the sensors in the rear bumper that activate the beep, beeep, beeeep the closer you get to something behind you when you are in reverse.
I am having the same isue. My light stays on all the time. I have pulled all the sensors and put them in my sons truck and they are all fine. I am being told that it is either the switch or the module. I am going to pull the module tonight and see if I have a wire that has come loose. Does anyone know if a new module has to be programmed if a new one is installed?
subscribing to this post! having the same trouble with my excursion. light stays on all the time, wont go off backup sensors no workie. please keep us updated on what you find. thanks!!
What is that website? Those prices are better for the module. You can get a code reader and it will tell you exactly what part is broke right down to the isolating each sensor. I need to know where the module is located on my 04 crew cab.
the website is www.partsguyed.com he is an FTE member and goes to the wrenchfests and get togethers. he is an awesome guy and gives the best prices on oem ford stuff. i wander if i could go to advance and have them read the codes and they would show up or do i need a better code reader than that? i have one but it will only read engine codes. what do you think?
They may have a reader I do not know. If they do and they read it for you let me know. I am asking around so I do not have to pay the dealer $100.00 to hook it up. I took my son's kick panel off today and could not locate the module. I am also still attempting to locate the easiest way to access the switch w/o braking something.
will do, will probably get by there saturday morning. have not attempted to locate module yet, if i can find my haynes manual i will look it up for ya.
Did some more checking today. Turns out that my parking aid speaker is bad. Pulled the module out of my sons truck today and started mixing parts to trouble shoot. Sure beats $105.00 for the dealer to tell me the issue. Ordering one tonight and I will be back u and running soon. I found them online for $9.00 for the kit and $1.81 for the speaker if I want to solder the tabs. Here is the link for the TSB o be speaker kit.
