The compressor will cycle quickly (on/off within 5-10 seconds) if the charge is too low. On a correctly charged system, the compressor will cycle on and off every 30-45 seconds to prevent the evaporator from freezing up

That's good to know, thanks! I was getting worried thinking my compressor was going out. I would say the cycle time is just a few seconds.
