i just got offered an 86 f150 300 i 6 4x4 t19 for $300.00.it was originally from the USA and was last registered in the Yukon.the box is totally rusted out along with the fenders.the interior is in decent shape and the 4x4 works with brand new MT rubber.
now because of the rust i don't think it will pass an out of province inspection, meaning i can't get it registered.should i buy it for parts? should i put my 81 cab and box on it and make it a 300 6 4x4 and drop my 302 into my ranger?or should i put the 300 into the 81 as it's mostly my daily driver and get better mpg (the 302 sucks for towing).or fix the rust and try to get it registered?and hot rod my 81?
you guys are very knowledgeable, and i trust your advice.please help me decide.
I'll post some pics when i can get to it later this week.
the previous owner put a new feedback dizzy and couldn't get it started,i got it running for him a couple of months ago runs really good.if i get it registered first thing is a duraspark conversion and make it my winter daily driver.
i stopped buy to take a look at the truck today and it's in better shape than i thought here are a few pics.
the cab has no rust hole's and the fenders have a little rust but no holes.as you can see the drivers side of the box is in bad shape but i might be able to fix that.i will get some more pics of the interior and better of the body once i pick it up this weekend.
Bed rust aside, it looks like a decent truck. I think places like LMC sell bed-side panels to replace that entire rusted section. The only thing with that is, you'd have to totally repaint that side of the bed.
Kinda strange how the bed is in such bad condition, yet the cab seems like it's in perfect shape....
yea i'm going to grab it.get it inspected, and put it on the road.hope the 300 i6 will get better gas mileage than the 17 mpg my 302 gets. with it being a 4x4 and all.
