I just got my truck back from ford. I had the heads, gaskets, egr and oil cooler replaced with ARPs of course. They thought I had a leak also so they pulled the tranny but turned out I did not. Well, since it came back I have a strange, quick whistle as soon as the truck starts. I never heard this before. What did they screw up this time? The truck has spent a month in the shop for one problem and every time it comes back it has a new one.
Is your truck straight piped if so its probley for the most recent flash. I had the latest flash put in my truck a few months ago along with an oil cooler gasket repair and ever since then my truck would make a whistle noise really fast and then go away. Usually as soon as the turbo starts to spool up. Anyways I have some friends that work at the local ford dealer. They are the fleet department service advisor and manger. Anyways I asked them about it and they said its the VGT accuator cycling the the turbo vanes on cold starts. Its part of the new PCM programming that is suposed to help the sticking vane problem that people have. Its annoying at times for me but I guess thats the price I pay for having a straight piped exhaust. Im sure stock exhaust system trucks you never hear it
HMMM, I have an MBRP but the Cat is gutted. I would travel anywhere within a reasonable distance to take care of my truck. I only have about 8 more moths on the warranty too.
You should find out if you have the latest flash you probley do! I like my 6.0 but sometimes I wish had my 02 7.3 Or better yet my 06 truck with a 7.3 engine that would be my ideal truck!!!
