Okay, so I'm sure I've missed this thread and the question and it's probably already been asked, but what is the difference between the Warn "Lock/Free" settings and the Factory "Lock/Auto" settings. Is the auto the same as the free, or do I stand to gain .2 mpg if I swapped over to the Warns? Unfortunately I have the vacuum hubs, not the manual shift, but still curious to at least better understand my truck a little more.
Thanks!
You have the ESOF option. You can change to a set of Warn hubs, but you will eliminate the vacum hubs which is half of your shift on the fly. If you don't mind getting out and locking them in, you can't get any better than a set of Warn Premium hubs. I have a manual transfer case and hubs, so I can't comment on any mpg gains you might get. There are a few on here that have done the conversion and might chime in soon.
I have a set of manual locking superwinch hubs. the only difference is that when the warn hub is in free position using your switch on the dash will not put the truck in 4wd unless you get out and manually put them in the lock position. As for the mpg gain i do not notice anything.
I just had my factory OEM hubs replaced with Warn Premium hubs... I don't see any improved mpgs... but they work very well out on the farm... My vacum system had gone bad somewhere in my factory hub system... the manual lock still worked but I had it replaced before this winter starts up in a few months....
It mainly simplifies your 4x4 system by removing the vacum system... thus it if it goes bad its cuz something is really broke bad or out of alignment.

Agreed, and agreed... The ONLY reason you would ever see a gain, is if one of your stuck hubs were stuck in the lock position..
I went with the Warn hubs when I found out how much Ford wanted for 1 hub. Igot the Warns and had enough money left over and take the famoly out to dinner........all week.

Lol that is very true. I bought my pair for less than one factory one, and they are lifetime warranty.

I have an early 99, no vacuum, straight manual. Are the Warn hubs an easy install....out and in, or are there mods to do. Tnx
