You can buy the manuals at www.helminc.com. You can also check eBay for used DVDs or paper manuals; that's where I got my DVD. I don't have a code reader, but there are a lot out there if you're just looking for a code reader. Personally, I'm going to get a DashDAQ when I have the spare cash and that will give me gauges and the ability to read codes.

AutoEnginuity is excellent for obtaining diagnostic info and system data.. It's much more than a code reader.. You'll have the ability to see realtime sensor data from the vehicle..

Finding one of the Motorcraft shop/service manuals on DVD is a great investment.. Check with this seller on e-bay...

I tried to send you a pm, it didn't work. I have a set of Helm inc manuals for sale in the marketplace.

This is good for a compact code reader and datalogger if you don't want to have to deal with a laptop.

Out of the two, I would suggest the AE software first and then the DashDAQ as a supplemental device to the AE(I really like my electronic toys though too I should mention). The AE will be able to do a lot more troubleshooting then the DashDAQ can particularly with all the actuation commands that just came out with the 8.1 release.

I actually have 4 licenses(which you'll have to get the Ford license for it to really get to the nitty gritty for the 6.0, well worth the investment) and I use that for all the vehicles that I deal with within the family. The price is pretty well fixed, although you might be able to get free shipping for it etc that might help mitigate the total cost, but it is well worth it, even if all it did was code reading as for the 6.0, it's able to read codes from all 9 modules. At 100 a pop for code reading, it doesn't take long to recoup that. Now with the actuation commands, even less time.

tex25025,

I want to get a Dashdaq, but I want to be sure it can read the FICM voltages. Have you ever used it to look at those PIDs? I had read a post elsewhere that the scaling is wrong and it will not read the 48VDC.

No I have not. I'll try to take a look at that tomorrow and let you know what I find out.
