Of those two I'd say the Top Gun, it looks like it goes more with the trucks lines. The Ranch Hand is supposed to be an awesome product but they look like they belong on an old farm truck instead of a new Superduty. Just my opinion though, yours is the only one that really counts. I'd also look into which one is lighter.
Ranch Hand all the way. The Top Gun looks sweet but somebody at an off-road shop told me they were going out of busines... a few months ago. Looks like that hasn't happened.
I have heard like 10 stories of how Ranch Hands have performed well in wrecks, by either not bending or saving peoples lives.
Two of my friends have trucks, both with RHs. One has the Legend series on his Sierra and he hit a 300 lb shelf at 60 mph and it didn't do any damage. The other has a Grille guard on his Silverado half ton. He originally had a Top Gun gg but he took it off b/c the welds were cracking and it literally fell off his truck.
One day while at the mud bog, he got his truck and trailer stuck and I asked him if he watned a tow... he said, "no can do b/c when I had my Top Gun on there it deleted my tow hooks." He hadn't put 'em with hs RH yet.
Now, these stories really pertain to their situations but IMO, go with a a name like Rh that you know will be there and that has so much positive reinforcement.
I have one on my truck nad it's saved my truck twice from two front ends.
Normally I would say Ranch Hand, but I really like the looks of that Top-Gun bumper. Additionally, they are a lot less common which kind of adds a unique factor to it all. I'd go Top-Gun.
The only down side is, every redneck down here in Texas only knows "Ranch Hand" and might talk down any other bumper only because they don't know better.
Edit: That being said, I have ranch hands front and rear, as well as one of their headache racks.
Tough call for me. I like the over all look of an untouched Superduty front end. It took me awhile to get used the grill guard/light bar my Truck has. I am planning on a sturdy front winch, but it's going to be a hard final decision for me to make. I want to keep the front end as close to original as I can. I know it's wishfull thinking, but I'll do my best.
I say install a hidden winch and replace the parts you break because you didn't install the full coverage bumper. <smile>
I will build my own unless I get one dirt cheap. My old chevy had a ranchhand on it and I totaled 2 cars and the truck it was on. 50mph head on colision then into another car. The ranchhand ebded up with bent tabs where it attached to the bumper abd one wing bent a little. The frame of the truck was kinked bad enough they didn't fix it. Point of the story the ranch hand was stronger than the truck frame. After reading the specs on both the topgun bumper cuts corners on pipe thickness. I would go with ranch hand. The styles are very similar and I assume you are putting 2-300 lbs of steel up there for protection right? Why skimp and take a chance?
