I am going to post this here, since this is where I hang out on this forum. I inherted a 1996 Grand Marquise that sat for 5+ years. I was in perfect running order when he parked it. Anyway, the car just needs a good cleaning, looks and finish wise it is great. However, a wood rat made his home under the hood. He ate thru the plug wires on one side and a few misc. wires scattered around the engin and about ten wires in the main bundle comming thru the firewall. Also, in the area where they actually lived, right above a spark plug, there is alot of rust, including rust on the injector.
Has anyone here repaired damage like this with success, or is it scrap iron.
Also, WTF is the deal with these sparkplugs, how in the hell to you get them out. Never have owned a modern ford vehicle.
It is possible to repair something like this but it will take time. Replace the Plugs and wires and then use the colors of what is left of each wire to match up the damaged wires. Go out and get a spool of a couple different gauges of wire based upon what sizes the damaged wires were and some shrink wrap. Then start soldering in pieces of replacement wire and shrink wrap them to keep out the elements. Time consuming but it can be done. I did one on the main wiring harness on an 85 Town Car it melted while the car was trying to start itself in my driveway unattended. You just need to be slow and methodical and also try to stagger the location of the spliced in wires so that you don't have a bunch of splices rubbing on each other over time.
Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the advice stosh, but this harness is everywhere, it looks like I would have to disassemble the car to get it out, I am ussually ambitious with this kind of stuff, but replacing this harness is way out of my league. I think I'll try the splice thing first, if that dont work, I may need to get the harness. I just have to decide if this "clunker" lol is worth it.
