Hypertech Max Energy - Pros/cons

I talked to Hypertech the other day and asked them about the Max Energy. They clain that you can use all three stages of tunes while towing as long as you are within the spec limits. Most of the tuners I see do not allow for this except in a "tow" mode.

I am trying to decide between the Hypertech and the SCT with custom tunes from innovative.

Any thoughts, comments, preferences?

Thanks,
Greg

Better service with the sct. More choices with the sct. Custom tuning with the sct. I would rather talk to a guy that has his hands in the diesel world when it come to tuning not a customer service rep that might be able to help you with incorrect info. I would find it hard to believe that all 3 settings will give you good performance and still tow.

I'm not a tuner guy but everything I have read on this forum indicates that you should stay away from any of the generic tuners and go the custom route.

Also make sure your truck is ready for the increased HP.

Thanks everyone. Looks like the consensus is to go with the SCT.

Thanks KRDiesel,

I looked at the Phalanx Spartan, but it is very pricey (about 2x the cost) compared to the SCT. DO you feel the extra $$ is worth it for your Phalanx? What do they do better or different?

My F-250 is modified with the 4" exhaust with the cat removed and an Air Raid FIPK and a Quadzilla controller (soon to be replaced).

Right now the difference is the gauges and diagnostics of the dash daq. I've heard that currently they are not doing ficm tuning which would be the reason I would switch to the phalanx.

Not sure how to read your post..... and wonder if others might be cornfuzed too

I think you are mistaken if you are saying SCT does not do FICM tuning !!!

Stonezone the XCal2 from the right tuner will do wonders for your truck !

Like Crack - you won't be able to drive without it once you are hooked...

At the moment the Phalanx does not do FICM on the 6.0. It will in the future.

You have access to 100's of PIDs that you can use as guages, It will report DTC that the SCT will not!!. It is also a media player, GPS option,

Being a computer, not just a tuner the future is unlimited. BTW you can use it on other cars or trucks to do everything except tuning.

SCT does NOT do FICM tuning, but there are some vendors that can do separate FICM tuning. Innovative diesel, and powerhungry performance. The Spartan Phalanx will in the very near future have this capability, and as KR Diesel said it will have MANY MANY more options than the SCT can.

Be careful when you say "risk free". Hypertech assumes very little risk in the venturre, they simply refund your money if you are unhappy with the unit. No big deal. You as the truck owner assume the bigger risk in the form of high dollar repairs to your truck's engine and/or transmission.
