Does anyone know of any independent test results available that prove or refute valvoline's claims for the performance of this oil. I've been a valvoline user for 30 yrs with several vehicles that have gone over 250,000 with no internal problems save usual wear. This oil is substantially more expensive that the valvoline that I use now.Don't want to wast money on another miracle carcare product that "talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk", as the DUKE would say!
I don't really know the answer to your question but will give my opinion and tell what I THINK I read.
I think Max Life is marketed as the oil for older engines and I think I read that it has some additives that make it work better in engines with loose rings and bearings. IMHO this is just regular oil with Valvoline's version of STP mixed in. Don't get me wrong, I have used Valvoline since before I was legal to drive, back in the 70s. It was my brand of choice until synthetics came out and Valvoline didn't have any back then. I do use Valvoline Synthetic in my 94 F250 and have no complaints.
Unless my car had worn rings or bearings, I would use a synthetic, or as a minimum use a good brand of dino oil. Valvoline is fine in both aspects. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major brands as long as you meet specifications and have an engine in good condition.
IMHO the Max Life is just a marketing ploy to sell more dino oil at an inflated price. Same could be said of synthetics since most of us probably don't stress the oil as bad a synthetics can take. But there are lab tests over the years showing synthetics do perform for severe conditions.
I found out recently that Havoline is bottling most all of it. Check the bottles for the numbers on the back next time you are in the store. They may be adding different coloring to the oils, to make them look different.
