I HAVE AN 87 F-150 4WD OIL PRESSURE WAS A LITTLE HIGH WHEN I SHIFTED INTO NUETRAL OIL PRESSURE DROPPED ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT ENGINE DIDNT SOUND BAD AS SOON AS i PUT IT BACK IN GEAR EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL COULD IT BE THE SENDING UNIT
Not enough detail to know but It might be the sending unit or maybe a loose wire. I assume the idiot light came on and or the pressure gauge was what you were reading.
A truck with your age might have a lot of miles on it and may just be getting tired.
Give us some more detail. An engine won't necessarily sound bad with low oil pressure. What does it sound like while running? Clicks clatters? What does you gauge say? Does the idiot light come on regularly? Does the engine smoke or burn oil?
