I have used Mobil 1 5W30 in my Chebby 350 since first oil change. I did try 0W30 a couple times but the engine was noisier, some light clatter after startup. The 5W30 did not make any noise. I use 5W30 Valvoline syn in my F250 460, just because I like Valvoline and it wasn't around when I got my previous cars.
Unless you live where block heaters are a requirement, I wouldn't worry about using 0W30. The 5W30 has plenty of temperature range for most US applications. My opinion and what I have read.
I agree with Mr. Henderson. The recommended weight for most passenger cars and trucks is 5W-30. Straight 30 shouldn't hurt the engine, but I would personally reccomend 5W-30.
Thanks for the advice. I have used 5W30 in my 3.2L Acura and have noticed some start up noise at very cold temperatures (below 25 F). The use of 0W30 eliminated that sound, so I assume it was flowing better at engine start up. I'll probably stick with the 5W30 in the truck, but thought perhaps since I have good experience in the Acura it might translate to the truck...
