Auto door lock
I must be getting old!! Thought I locked the damn doors to find them open in the morning. Due to having the keypad entry system which I never knew how I got on before without it, I would like to find an aftermarket device which would simply lock the doors after eg. 30 mins of non use everytime I leave the vehicle. Any ideas? Thanks.

You would need to get an active alarm system. It locks the door and sets the alarm at the same time, when the last door closes or when the dome light goes out. As opposed to a passive anti theft system. Which you arm automatically, but pretty much all anti theft systems have codes to allow the passive to active.

So if I understand, what comes original can't be programed to do this! Ford doesn't offer an Active system for a 2000 Excursion? As far as an aftermarket, is there one company that stands out and do they have anything that will just plug in?

Forgot about that, since I have never used mine. I guess I could always use the "punch and try" code list if I had to.

Interestingly I found that the code that comes with the truck is often tough to remember and the owner is given the option to program his own. Most often an easy number is chosen therefore when using the code list it finds the chosen number fairly quickly as the code starts with the easy combinations first.
I had mentioned in a previous post that I got impatient as the weather here in Michigan was in the -10's and 20-25 mph winds, I ended up dressing myself up to the hilt with a large pair of gloves, ear muffs hood and after the second line of numbers (about 4 minutes) the locks popped open.
So don't think your going to have to enter the whole 4000 plus numbers ..........unless you've done something realllllly bad.

A little experimentation will reveal that, if the code is 11357, and you type 5113579, the door will still open! This means that with 7 characters we managed to try out 3 sequences - 51135, 11357, and 13579. After the inital 4 numbers (which sort of primed the pump) every digit tries one new sequence. Since there are 55 length 5 sequences of characters from an alphabet of size 5, we know that we'll need to try 3125 sequences total. With our intuition from above, we would hope that we could find a sequence of size 4 + 3125 (priming the pump, followed by one new sequence every keypress). It turns out that a mathematician named de Bruijn has already done all of the hard work for us on this one, and all of the relevant math can found under the names de Bruijn sequence and de Bruijn graph. But I'm not going to talk about math any further here. Right now, I am going to give you a sequence of minimal length that, when you enter it into a car's numeric keypad, is guaranteed to unlock the doors of said car. It is exactly 3129 keypresses long, which should take you around 20 minutes to go through.
