ok so i got to talking to the local CarB guy about rejetting my YFA, said he could go leaner but hadn't seen fatter jets... told him what was going on, what i wanted. basically im still fighting the smooth idle and pinging on the highway, or rougher idle and no pinging on the highway. so he suggested discconnecting the vacuum advance and resetting the initial timing, he suggested this because my vacuum advance cannot be tuned (we tried, there isnt an adjustment screw in it) so i did this and it seems to have helped alot. still have a bit of pinging at 3/4-WOT...still have a bit of tuning to do.
my question is what position are your alls distributors in? where is your vacuum advance located in relation to the block? Is the advance located over the oil filter (like mine) or is it located at the furthest point, perpendicular to the block?
The carb guy said he'd never seen one in the position mine is in, they are usually pulled down perpendicular to the block.
mine is more parallel with the block kinda right the coil and the vac port it pointing towards the fuel pump. but I haven't messed with the timing on the engine yet and I am expeirencing some low power issues so I'm not sure if my set up is a good a example
I also have the vac advance line going to manifold vacuum.
is yours a dual port advance or single?
I've been looking for an adjustable vac advance I think you could get one for 30-40 bucks. I've found em' for ford v8's but nothing that says 6cyl. don't no if the v8 would work or not.
You can locate the vaccum advance wherever you feel. The only thing that matters is firing order. Ive seen 300s with them at the front rear or on the side. Mine personaly sits at about 7 oclock if you where sitting in the drivers seat. I am not 100% on this but I belive the FE or small block (302) shared the same vaccum advance unit as a 300 in points distributors. Hence you can install an adjustable vaccum advance for about $25.
Note:When you post a thread heading use the word distributor, not dizzy please. Once you are into the thread dizzy will work. Just kinda looks lazy you know.
