Gas Tank Replacement Question
My truck hasn't had a gas tank behind the seat for years. It has two add on gas tanks under the bed, but neither one is set up for the gas gauge to work.
So I've got another 65 that I'm using for parts and it has a gas tank that I'm going to put into my "good" truck, and I'm wondering if there's anything special I need to treat the inside of the tank with before installing it. The truck it's coming from has been in a barn for years.
I also need to replace the fuel line grommet (where the fuel line goes through the floor). Dennis Carpenter has one but it's not for the right year. Any ideas on where I could pick one up?
I also have a lot of parts on the "parts truck" that I don't need and would be willing to sell or trade them. There is no engine or transmition in it, but things like Door Hinges, seat, side chrome trim, fenders, chrome bumpers, chrome grill are available among other things.
I've only posted a couple of times but the help I've gotten in these forums from the many other posts have been a life saver. Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge here!
Thanks,
BC
I do not have DC's catalog, so I don't know which grommet he's listed. The following info is from the 1957/63 & 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalogs.
379628S .. Fuel Line Grommet / 5/16" I.D. / 1/2" thick / 31/32" diameter where it fits into the floor / Obsolete
Parts catalog pic shows this grommet fitting into the floor where the fuel line enters/exits the cab.
(EDIT: The grommet (380695S) used on 1973/77's in this location is not the same, according to the 1973/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalog)
BOWMAN FORD SALES in Bowman ND has 38 = 701-523-3257.
No other Ford Dealer, no obsolete parts vendor has any.
------------------------------------------------------
379627S .. Fuel Line Grommet / No specs available / Obsolete
Parts catalog pic shows this grommet further forward after the fuel line enters/exits the cab.
No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
This stuff will stop the tank from leaking if it has rust pinholes.
The 17.5 gallon in-cab tank (C1TZ9002K) is the same 1961/69. However...
In 1970, Ford replaced the 1961/69 in-cab tank with the 1970 (1970/72) in-cab tank for use as a service part replacement.
Service part = sold by dealers at the parts counter.
The 1970/72 in-cab tank (DOTZ9002A) is 19 gallons and has been reproduced by BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS.
The only difference between the 1961/69 tank and the 1970/72 tank is one brass fitting.
And thanks Dave, I've ordered the gas repair kit from Eastwood. I figure I ought to be proactive and take care of the tank while I have it out and can do it easily.
