ed,

now folks are getting a little sense of what my parts guys were going thru...they did find the part once I had my wife bring in the old part...

It should NOT be this hard to get a freakin' map light bulb replaced is my point!

Joe.

Hey Folks...

Came across this OLD thread when I was about to replace my overhead map light bulbs (in the first row), with LED bulbs.

Here's what I came up with;

Step One;
Purchase "Wagner PC579" bulbs/sockets from Napa Auto Parts (local to me), around $8 each.
(these allow you to replace the bulb with a 194 style wedge, rather than having to re-solder in a new bulb or buy direct from Ford)

Step Two;
Purchase two high power LED 194 bulbs, from local supplier. I bought a 194 bulb that has a 1w LED at the tip, with (3) .5w leds around the circumference.

Step Three;
Remove bulb from Wagner PC579, and replace with 194 LED.
Complete the installation by removing stock PC579, and replacing with new LED style!!! Wha-la... DONE!

... and oh boy, is it much brighter! LOVE IT!

I also replaced all my Festoon style bulbs while I was there. I used 39MM festoons that each house two individual 2w LEDs. And being I needed a total of 6 festoons to do the second row map lights, third row map/dome light, and cargo area dome light... it was costly, but well worth it. Almost too bright, but again... I like bright! (the other option is to go with 5050 type LEDs in the 39MM festoons, which are less expensive and not as bright).

I did this, being I put a "dome light over-ride" switch in my dash, for those days you leave the doors open and don't want the lights to stay on and drain the battery. At 12W of festoon lighting, and 5W of map lights... 17Watts will drain it somewhat quickly. (I'm not sure what the stock OEM bulbs add up to in watts, anyone?)

HELP

Thought I would ask this question here. I went to replace the bulbs in my console and the metal contacts just came loose and now I can't figure out how to get them working again. It's not the new bulbs, I tried putting the old ones back in and they didn't work. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

I was looking at the WeatherTech FloorLiners and I ran across this reference on their site...

"Sunroof Wind Deflector" "Shown on Ford Excursion"

The picture however, is such a close up you can not tell if it is an EX or not. And if you look closely you can see the windshield decal has F-150, maybe an extended cab?

Sorry to raise the dead, but I couldn't find out how to change the reading/dome light bulbs in the second row but figured it out.

You don't need to buy the whole assembly, and after pulling the assembly out of the ceiling you don't even need to do that. The lens pops out with a really thin screwdriver, like the kind you have in the set for working on electronics.

This pic shows the lens out.

This pic shows a shot of the bulb with a screwdriver pointing at it. It IS a #578.

Here's what the bulb looks like next to a pen for reference.

Cannot Find Map Light Replacement

I have an Excursion and i cannot find a replacement for the map light. I bought this truck used and it does not even have one in to compare it to. I looked up ford parts but there is nothing. Does the whole board have to be replaced or is there a screw in type bulb that now fits it.

I need to replace my map lights too. And I might have to replace the drivers side map light switch as it seems to be stuck. So this thread is well timed for me.

Are you talking about the lights above driver and passenger seats in the console?

The console light in the excursion is the same as was used in the windstar. I bought a windstar console at the junk yard for $10 and have a second complete dome light setup.
