I have a 94 Ranger 4x4 4.0 automatic king cab. I would like to put 34x9.5x15 on my ranger. I have a small suspension lift that one of the previous owners put on the truck. He ran 33x12.50 on the truck. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the super swamper 34x9.5x15 on a ranger? Did they look ok? How did they performe? The truck currently has 30 inch street tires which desperately need to be replaced. LOL. I'm thinking about a 2 inch body lift just for good measure .
Personally, I don't think the earlier Rangers are a good vehicles for tires that tall. They kill acceleration (unless you re-gear), give a rough ride, and worst of all, they really make the brakes weak, and that's a safety issue. I don't think I'd go over 31" for your truck. Later trucks with bigger brakes can stand 33", but I think thats the practical limit in both cases.
I know there's a lot of people that are going to disagree on this, but weak brakes (in my opinion) are the major limiting factor.
Yes I am running 31X10.5's on my 87 extended cab auto and It has very weak brakes. It is all stock so before it gets a lift or anything it will get bigger brakes.
Where can you get bigger brakes for an '87? My old '91 4.0 came with the 8" rear end and their big rear brakes, but they were too much for the light rear end on that truck and would lock up easily. What it really needed was bigger front brakes, which the newer Rangers now have.
The 32" tires I have on my '04 are almost too tall as far as braking power goes. 33" tires would look better, but I'm not willing make the brakes that weak.
