Ok...Well I decided to pull the trigger. True 36k mile truck, overall very nice!
Needs:
Tires(dryrot)
Rotors(truned or new ones)
Pads are ok, but gonna replace them anyways
Batttery voltage was low need a new one
parking brake light does not work not sure whats up with that
The parking brake light --> check the little spring right above the foot brake. I just jiggled it and lubed it up a little and the light started working. The circuit just needed some clean metal for contact. Most likely just a little rusty or some dirt is keeping it from touching ...
It is really a NICE looking truck, I think that truck has chrome plated steel wheels.
Just look at this way if you keep it 10 years it will only cost you 850.00 a year. Just keep saying why buy new when I can get nearly new used. I would guess that truck listed for about 47,000.00 new
Nice!!! Good job on "pulling the trigger". The Drivers seat looks fine. I've seen 3 year old leather seats look way worse. Give the leather some Lexol treatment.
if voltage is low when the truck is running it prob needs new alternator. search "DB Electrical" for a good replacement alternator.. you prob need batteries too as the thing has probably sat for a long periods without running
I would want to have somewhere around 7000.00-7500.00 in this truck. 37,000 miles is great, but lets look at what all is nearly 10 years old on a 37,000 mile 2000 Excursion. Tires ? replace ? 850.00 Brakes never been replaced 150.00 Fluids 100.00 Belt 25.00 wipers 25.00 3rd Battery due 125.00 Filters 25.00 Aligment 50.00
I actually think you could spend 1500.00 on a 10 year old 37,000 mile truck just getting it to the condition of a 3 year old 37,000 mile truck.
Of course if it has been driven say 15,000 miles in the last year or so then most of the above does not apply. But if it has only been driven 3700 miles a year for 10 years an extended trip could and probably would creat a lot of problems.
Just give it a little thought. Now first and foremost it will be awful hard to find another with this low mileage. The 2000 model was a plug popper (4 threads in the head to hold the plugs in) so be careful changing plugs. The 2000 model did not have fog lamps, no big deal. Check the threads on the leather seats for age rot. Also take a good look at the condition of the leather and the steering wheel. In other words just use common sense and be alert. Best of luck on your decison and I hope you the very best.
I think your prices are a bit on the low side. But you do make a good point.
this is kind of funny, we bought a 1999 ford explorer limited V8 last fall with 17,000 miles on it. it was owned by some family friends. a older couple that had it since new and lived her part of the year. in a heated garage and never driven in the winter. its like brand new smells new..ect i fell in love since i saw it.
a year later we have put 7000 miles on it and other then an oil change and brakes nothing has needed replacement. we were worried that sitting that much would be bad for it..you've heard the horror storys. but we did it anyway because it was so freaking nice.
at the time the truck booked HIGH retail for $10,000 but with the $4/gal gas they were not selling too well, we offered $8,000 but with the full intnention of paying even more then the high retail due to the rareness of the low miles.
so what would i do? this excursion would go for much more up here anyway so i'd be willing to go $13,000 tops. this is considering that normal almost 100k mile excursions 00/01 go for around 12 here(gas)
EDIT: congrats on the truck! i didnt see you had allready bought it! looks amazing, makes me want another lol
Thanks everyone! Ordered the napa rotors for $240 and oem pads for $75 as my rents request. Also ordered the HOEN bulbs.
As to why I am doing this for my parents?... They live in south florida full time but will be retireing within a year. I am the only child with all my kids up here so they bought a house about 2 miles from my house so they will have a summer and winter home. They wanted a big truck to tote my kids around town so they are not borrowing my truck all the time.
Congrats!!! Good luck with it LOVE THE COLOR..
I think you got a good deal. That's about what it would have gone for here. I saw one today (diesel) 2003 for 23,000 with 37,000 miles......Diesels can go for crazy money here in NC
