trans id

hi i need to know what years of trans will fit a 1988 2.3 mustang will a explorer trans fit the id on it says p85gt-70d6-acr 1-5542-d31-5d80 is this a c5 or aod or what im going to the scrap yard to look for one anything you tell me will help thanks

First, ID your trans, I can't decode the numbers you gave, although others can and might happen along with an answer:

Note the Pinto motors use their own pattern:

HOWEVER, the C4 and C5 use a removable bell. BUT you should be replacing the TC along with the trans, right? So you might still be stuck looking for a Pinto/Boobcat to pluck one from.

MAYBE you could get a C4 or C5 from another model, probably NOT an Exploder. Swap to your bell, buy a new or rebuilt TC that is correct for your engine.
