That shot is for you, dude! Do you recognize that throttle cable? The engine would not have reached this point without your help. However, if it launches a rod or something like that on the initial break in, disregard the above.
Yes, I really like Lokar. This cable is top notch quality. You're right, they are a bit expensive, but if it lasts and bolts up, then I think it's worth it.
I will post a link to you tube when it is finished. Right now it is only the MSD, the alternator wiring, thermostat switch wiring for the fans, the exhaust, and about a million other little things that are holding us back. I don't even want to think about having to dial in the carb, lol.
If Jon did his home work, the carb should be close with only idle to dial in...piece of cake. I was so impressed with the ease of setup and operation of the cable, I bought a Lokar bracket too and swapped it in for the Spectre I had been using. I don't mind paying the price for a quality item. I resent paying any price for a piece of junk.

Regarding Lokar: I also used the Lokar replace column linkage, and found it to be impressive quality. I did have to use a grinder and cut off the trans shifting arm to make room for the Lokar arm (you've probably seen the photos I posted), and turn the kickdown lever 180 degrees. It was simple, a cut and a bend, and there it was--no more slop.
I had been leaning toward the Lokar floor shifter, but I really like having the leg room there. Now I have to calculate the length needed for a Lokar kickdown cable. They make one 72" long, but it pulls from the rear of the trans. That means making a U turn to the engine compartment, over the top of the trans, and a 90 degree turn to the carb, which adds quite a bit to the length. If the throttle cable is 48", I don't see two more feet reaching the carb.
Lokar mentioned on the phone they would make it to any length, as long as I was cutting the check. So it may be a special order. My friend has braided housing, so I'm going to lay it in place and get a measurement.
GEAR VENDOR: Yeah, I have to have one! It will put me closer to the desired 20 mpg freeway I'm hoping for. How close is yet to be seen. Anyway, I think I have found one for a bargain price, that will bolt up to my truck, with just a simple drive shaft shortening.
Once the bank account has been replenished, I hope to buy it.
I wasn't aware that Lokar would cut a custom cable...good to know. I've changed carbs several times and what little adjustment I had to make in the cable is a breeze.
I wanted to ask you: Did you lube your cable? Mine seems really coarse moving. I know that sounds funny, but it doesn't slide smoothly. I'll check the carb linkage, and all that too.
Today I fired it up!! I was cracking up because it whines like it has a blower on it! I raced the rpm right up to 2000, or there abouts, and held it for 15 minutes to break in the cam, like Isky recomends. But it started heating up, then I remembered that when I go to get a smog test and the race the engine, they always put one of those industrial fans in front of the engine. So I did that too.
I haven't driven it yet, but it runs great so far, whiney thing it is. I kind of like the whine, because now when I pull up next to some racer, he'll do a double take and look to see if I have a scoop to hide the blower, ha ha. It sounds really healthy too.
Dadgumit, I'm so stinkin' jealous! I want that motor in my truck so bad I can taste it. I forget what you said, are you going to dyno it? I can't wait to hear this thing run. When you take the video, PLEASE BE SURE NOT TO HOLD THE CAMERA TOO CLOSE to the tailpipes. It ruins the shot.
Hey HARTE! What show are you talking about? You nut! haha.
Ey you're the man Harte. Maybe I am a wee bit obsessed with exhaust sound. After all, is it so bad I'll follow someone for a while for a chance to talk about their own set up?
