I have a 96 f-250 powerstroke for 2 yrs now with only 34,000 miles on it. since I have owned it I have had nothing but starting problems the current issue is that when I go to start it wait for glow plugs to warm up turn key and nothing silence! try it several more times and it will finally start. I am afraid it will get worse and strand me in the woods some were. I don'y know a lot about diesels all I know is I miss my 77 it would start every time even after sitting for 6 months. I don't drive it much and that might be part of the problem the only thing I like about it is how nice it tows my horses. please help me to like my truck
That is exactly how my cps acted when it was going out. Take it to a dealer and if it has not had the recall done on it it will be done for free. Otherwise buy one for 30 bucks or so from them and do it yourself in a few minutes
Not neccasarily... Sometimes it won't turn over at all wiht a bad CPS.
Of course you can get a no-crank along with a bad CPS. But a no-crank can't be because of a bad CPS. The starting circuit doesn't go thru the PCM at all. 'Course, I'm going from a '95 EVTM; it's remotely possible '96 is different.
the engine wont turn at all once it gets going I have never had it sputter or die on me like I have been reading about other cps problems could it just be a bad connection somewhere
I bet its the starter. A way to check is have someone crank over the motor and hold a test light on the small wire going from the fender solenoid to the starter. If the wire has juice in the crank position its your starter.
is the clutch all the way in? is it in park all the way? will it crank in nuetral or revers? can you "short" it at the soleniod to eliminate the starter? could that small wire be knocked off the starter?
